On Sale For: $7,559.00

Ferrography has advanced as one of the premier predictive maintenance and analytical tools. This technique for wear particle analysis has become prominent in the paper industry, industrial plants with automated operations and in healthcare - specifically related to artificial joints and limbs. Ferrography enables plant managers, maintenance managers and healthcare professionals to make critical decisions more effectively.

The ferrogram is a specially designed and prepared microscope slide that is examined under a polarized bichromatic microscope equipped with a camera. Red, green and polarizing filters are used to distinguish the size, shape, composition and surface conditions of ferrous, nonferrous and non-metallic particles. The particles are further studied and classified in order to determine the type of wear and the source of the particle. Ferrography is capable of detecting active machine wear and can often provide a root cause based on the morphology of the wear particles.

  • Objective Lenses: DIN Infinity Corrected Optical System (ICOS) Plan Epi 5x, 10x, 20x and 50x mounted in smooth-operating, ball bearing mounted, quintuple nosepiece.
  • Viewing Head: Siedentopf-type trinocular head for camera integration. The eyetubes are inclined at 30° with the left eyetube having graduated diopter settings. The interpupillary distance is adjustable between 53mm - 75mm. An 80/20 beamsplitter for the trinocular tube can be engaged for photo work. (100% to eyetubes or 80% to phototube & 20% to the eyetube.) 30mm ID eyetube.
  • Eyepieces: SWH10x Widefield High Eyepoint eyepieces F.N. 22 are standard with a 25mm reticle mount. 15x and 20x eyepieces are available as an option. Also available - Widefield High Eyepoint 10x focusable eyepiece that accept 25mm reticles.
  • Total Magnification: 50x, 100x, 200x and 500x.
  • Specimen Stage: Ceramic-coated flat-top stage 191mm x 126mm, with 100mm x 100mm of travel. Equipped with precision ball bearing guides and low position drop down coaxial controls for X-Y movement.
  • Ferrography Filters: Red filter for vertical illuminator, polarizing filter and green glass filter.
  • Camera: Microscope package includes c-mount adapter and 3 mega pixel CMOS microscope camera with software. The software allows you to capture and save images as well as make measurements.
  • Software Calibration: If you plan to make measurements using the software you will need to calibrate the microscope. Calibrating your software with the microscope requires use of a stage micrometer. When ordering please select this option if you do not already have a stage micrometer. The stage micrometer is 1mm / 100 divisions. If NIST certification is selected 10 points will be certified. Please note that NIST certification takes approximately 2 weeks.
  • Laptop: When ordering please select if you would like to add the 14" notebook computer to your order.
  • Illumination: Vertical full Koehler illuminator with high intensity 6V 30 Watt halogen light source for brightfield and polarization techniques. Automatic voltage (100v~240v) sensing transformer with intensity control supplied in separate case. The following filters are supplied in mounts: blue clear, green clear, polarizing and neutral density (ND 50). Red filter is utilized in vertical illuminator for ferrography. Transmitted Koehler illuminator with 6v, 30w halogen lamp built into base. Includes automatic voltage (100v~240v) sensing transformer and intensity control built into the microscope base.
  • Focusing: Ergonomically low positioned coaxial focusing controls allow the operator to work with their forearms relaxed on the working surface. Range of travel is 23mm. Rotation of fine focus is 0.2mm per revolution.
  • Size & Weight: Microscope: 424.5mm (16.7")D x 526mm (20.7")H x 210mm (8.3")W, 9.7kg (21.4 lbs)
