I find the National Optical Microscope quite impressive for the money. It provides a crisp image relatively free of distortion and the illumination system is effective. I am a retired professor whose field was microscopy, and having worked with Zeiss, Olympus, Bausch and Lomb, and AO instruments, I know a decent microscope when I see one.
