NIST Certified Stage Micrometers

Stage micrometers are used to calibrate eyepiece reticles. In many industries it is important to have a stage micrometer that is NIST certified. NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) is a measurement standards laboratory which is a non-regulatory agency of the United States Department of Commerce.

NIST certification provides documentation that the stage micrometer meets very specific measuring guidelines.

All of Microscope World's stage micrometers can be NIST certified. If you need a NIST certified stage micrometer please give us a call at 800-942-0528 and we will be happy to help you out.

Microscope Stage Micrometer

A microscope stage micrometer is used to calibrate an eyepiece reticle. The stage micrometer is a glass slide that has a ruler printed on it. Stage micrometers can be NIST certified for exact points.
The above is an example of the 1" and 25mm stage micrometer. The top line is what is printed on the stage micrometer. The two lines below explain the divisions on the stage micrometer.

Because each microscope has a slightly different magnification factor, calibrating the eyepiece reticle with a stage micrometer will help you to ensure that your measurements are accurate. Learn more about microscope calibration here.

Microscope Eyepiece Reticles

A microscope eyepiece reticle (or reticule) is a small piece of glass with a ruler printed on it that is placed in the eyepiece. When looking through the microscope, the specimen can be easily measured, as the ruler is imposed on the image.

There are many different types of microscope eyepiece reticles. Standard reticles include cross lines, grids and rulers.
